Durability Session

Durability: n. the ability to withstand wear, pressure, or damage. Similar words: permanence, longevity, resilience, strength, robustness, soundness
 
Using tools for self myofascial release along with corrective exercises, our goal is to increase mobility, improve flexibility, and achieve greater alignment and movement patterns in the gym and in life. Chances are you give your all in the gym but the majority of your day may be spent sitting at a desk, looking at a computer screen or cell phone, standing in the same position, or just missing a lot of movement in general. Over time, we start to develop movement patterns and adhesions that aren’t supportive of the ways we are meant to move. Not only will this session warm you up and help you move well for your Saturday morning workout, it will also introduce you to the tools and techniques you can implement on your own at any time to help you move and feel better in your body.
 
Our SMR tools of choice are the Original Yoga Tune Up Therapy Balls and the Coregous ball. Similar to the use of tennis balls, lacrosse balls, and foam rollers, these implements will be used to roll out, remobilize, and reoxygenate tight tissues but with more precision and more of a hands on feel. It’s basically an opportunity to give yourself the deep tissue work you need on a daily basis. Learning the correct ball placements and sequences will help you take care of yourself both in and out of the gym. Each Durability Session will focus on areas we don’t think of as needing mobility work (feet, ankles, diaphragm, etc) as well as a direct manipulation of the tissues we’ll be using in our Saturday morning Wod. The correctives combined with the deep tissue work will help warm up our tissues and prepare our body for movement without bringing fatigue to the muscles. Really, just get ready to notice a difference in how well you start to move, immediately.
 
Durability Sessions will be offered Saturday mornings, October 12 – November 30 from 7:30am – 8:15am followed immediately by the WOD. This class is free for members with the option to purchase your own set of Therapy Balls mentioned above for $20. We highly recommend you purchase these tools so that you can practice these methods at home, too. For non-members, the drop in fee is $20 with also the option to purchase the Therapy Balls.
